From ancient art markets and wholesale craft villages to designer boutiques and modern malls. Know where to shop, what to buy, and how to bargain — straight from locals.
Plan a Shopping TripBali offers everything from the Ubud Art Market's handcrafted sarongs and wooden masks to Seminyak's designer boutiques and modern shopping malls. Bargaining is standard at markets (start at 40% of asking price). Craft villages specialise in silver, wood carving, and batik.
Bali is a shopper's paradise that caters to every taste and budget. The island's rich artistic heritage means you will find handcrafted goods — from intricate wood carvings and silver jewellery to batik textiles and Balinese paintings — that are genuinely unique and cannot be found anywhere else in the world. The village of Celuk specialises in silver and gold smithing, Mas is famous for wood carving, Batubulan for stone carving, and Tohpati for batik weaving. These are not tourist gimmicks — they are centuries-old craft traditions passed down through generations of Balinese artisan families.
Ubud Art Market (Pasar Seni Ubud) is Bali's most famous market and a must-visit for any shopper. Located in the heart of Ubud opposite the royal palace, it opens at 4:00 AM for the wholesale session (where local vendors stock up) and by 8:00 AM is in full tourist mode. You will find handwoven bags, batik sarongs, wooden masks, paintings, woven baskets, silk scarves, and handmade jewellery. Prices are negotiable — start at 40% of the asking price and settle around 50–60%. For the best selection and least crowds, visit between 8:00 and 10:00 AM.
For fashion-forward shopping, Seminyak's Jalan Raya Seminyak and Jalan Kayu Aya (Eat Street) are lined with independent boutiques selling resort wear, sustainable fashion, handmade accessories, and curated homewares. Brands like Magali Pascal, Biasa, and The Jungle Trader offer designs you won't find on any high street. Canggu's Batu Bolong area has a growing scene of surf-inspired brands and vintage shops. Prices here are fixed (no bargaining) and higher than markets, but the quality and originality are worth it.
If you prefer air-conditioned mall shopping, Bali has several modern options. Beachwalk Shopping Center in Kuta is a three-level open-air mall with international brands, a cinema, and ocean views. Mall Bali Galeria near the airport offers duty-free shopping and is convenient for last-minute purchases before departure. Seminyak Village is a boutique mall with upscale Indonesian and international fashion labels. For wholesale and bulk buying — especially Balinese home décor, rattan furniture, and ceramics — Sukawati Art Market and Kumbasari Market in Denpasar offer the lowest prices on the island.
