Accommodation, transport and activity figures come from the rates we contract and operate against — including our own 73-vehicle fleet — not from public listing prices. Rupee amounts convert from Indonesian rupiah at the live rate, so they move with the exchange rate rather than going stale.
These are the six that turn a ₹40,000 quote into a ₹70,000 trip. None of them are exotic — they are simply left off the quote.
Ngurah Rai to Seminyak or Ubud is 45–120 minutes depending on traffic. Cheap package quotes routinely exclude it, then sell it on arrival at a markup.
Renting a scooter without a valid International Driving Permit voids most travel insurance, and Indonesian police do stop and fine tourists. Factor a driver instead.
Many temples and waterfalls charge separately per person on top of any tour price. A tour "including sightseeing" often means transport only.
The crossing, the island car, and the individual viewpoint fees are three separate charges. Quotes usually show only the first.
Christmas, New Year and Nyepi carry 3–5 night minimums and 30–80% rate uplifts. A quote priced in April will not hold in December.
Indonesian ATMs charge per withdrawal and most Indian cards add 2–3.5% forex markup. Budget roughly 3% on everything you pay by card.

For one person on a 6-day trip, yes — comfortably. ₹1,00,000 covers return flights at ₹25,000–₹45,000 plus a comfortable-tier stay with a private car and daily breakfast. For a couple, ₹1,00,000 total is tight: it works at the budget tier with connecting flights booked early, but not with a private-pool villa. For two people wanting a pool villa and a private driver, plan closer to ₹1.8–2.5 lakh all-in.
For one person, ₹50,000 covers the ground costs of a week at the budget tier — but not the flight. Return airfare alone is ₹25,000–₹45,000, so ₹50,000 all-in only works if you catch a fare sale and stay in hostels or simple hotels. A realistic solo budget-tier week including flights is ₹75,000–₹95,000. For two people sharing, ₹50,000 each is comfortable at the budget tier including flights, because the room and the car split in half.
Indian passport holders need an Indonesian Visa on Arrival. It costs IDR 500,000 (about ₹3,099) per person, is valid for 30 days and can be extended once for another 30. You can buy it online as an e-VoA before you fly or at the airport on arrival. Your passport must have at least six months' validity. Separately, every visitor pays the Bali Tourism Levy of IDR 150,000 (about ₹899) per person.
On the ground, yes — food, transport and mid-range stays cost less than Thailand's islands, Dubai or the Maldives. The flight is what closes the gap: there are no direct India–Bali flights, so every routing connects and the airfare is higher than a direct hop to Bangkok or Dubai. Bali wins on villa value: a private pool villa that would cost ₹40,000 a night in the Maldives is often ₹8,000–15,000 in Seminyak or Ubud.
Scale the 6-day figures by roughly 15–20% for the two extra nights — accommodation, transport and food all extend, while flights, visa and levy do not. For a couple at the comfortable tier that lands around ₹2,15,599–₹2,63,299 on the ground for both people, plus ₹50,000–₹90,000 in flights.
Thailand is cheaper to reach and easier for a first international trip; Bali is better for villas, scenery and a slower, more private holiday. If your priority is nightlife and short flights, Thailand wins. If it is a private pool villa, rice terraces and a driver who knows the island, Bali does.
