Bali in April — Start of Dry Season Guide

April sees a dramatic improvement in weather conditions across Bali. Rainfall drops to 100-150mm — less than half of what you'd experience in February. Rain days decrease to roughly 8-12 per month, and when it does rain, showers are typically brief and light. Temperatures are comfortable at 27-30°C during the day with pleasantly cooler evenings around 23-25°C. Humidity drops noticeably from the wet-season highs, making everything feel more comfortable. Sunshine hours increase to 7-8 hours per day, and the air has a freshness that comes from the recent rains clearing out any haze. The ocean temperature remains warm at 28°C, and underwater visibility improves significantly — making April an excellent month for diving and snorkelling.

April occupies a pricing sweet spot between low season and peak season. Hotels haven't yet raised their rates to peak-season levels, and many properties still offer wet-season promotional packages through April. You can expect prices 20-35% below peak-season rates for comparable accommodation. Flight prices from most Asian cities remain moderate, and domestic Indonesian flights are very affordable. April opens up the full range of Bali activities without weather restrictions. Climbing Mount Batur for sunrise is spectacular with clear skies revealing panoramic views across the caldera to Mount Agung and beyond. The south coast surf season kicks into gear with consistent swells hitting Uluwatu, Padang Padang, and Bingin — some of the world's best breaks start firing. Diving conditions at Nusa Penida improve dramatically, with increasing chances of spotting manta rays at Manta Point and the elusive mola mola (ocean sunfish). The Tegallalang and Jatiluwih rice terraces are still green and lush from the rains. Cycling tours through the Ubud countryside are comfortable in the moderate temperatures, and white water rafting on the Ayung River still has good water levels.

April often coincides with several Balinese temple ceremonies and cultural events. The Balinese calendar is complex and lunar-based, so specific dates vary each year, but you're likely to encounter odalan (temple anniversary) celebrations at various temples around the island. These are authentic cultural experiences where you can watch devotees in traditional dress making offerings and participating in prayers. Easter sometimes falls in April, and Bali's beach clubs and luxury resorts often host special Easter brunches and events. The Ubud Writers & Readers Festival, one of Southeast Asia's largest literary events, sometimes falls in April depending on the year.
